We view Creative Digital Competition as new ways for children to challenge and inspire each other in social, digital, playful creativity. We will look across various media forms to bring digital creativity to new audiences while encouraging accessible, healthy, and friendly challenges.
Join us in exploring all the different facets of positive and friendly competition, creative challenges and collaborating with others across larger communities. Together we will invent and launch meaningful experiences, platforms and services to engage the builders of tomorrow to create and express themselves.
Innovation in this space can tackle solutions relating, but not limited to:
At the LEGO Ventures Incubation Studio we’re constantly exploring new and innovative ways to bring playful learning to children around the world. During the unprecedented times we saw in 2020, we identified a need for robust and innovative solutions to bring playful learning and education to all children outside of the traditional school setting.
Limited resources, stretched teachers, and busy home schedules means schools and parents might be struggling to provide optimal breadth, personalization, and quality learning to all children equally.
Join us in exploring new solutions to elevate and democratize learning for all and introducing new ways of playful learning outside the traditional classroom. Let’s invent the Next Generation of Non-Classroom Learning!
We will be evaluating idea submissions on an ongoing basis, so please submit your idea as soon as possible! The ones where we see a potential idea and founder fit will be invited to pitch and potentially co-create their venture with us.
Our model consists of three phases from idea to spin-out. Throughout our incubation process we are continuously evaluating founders and ideas, and although some concepts might show great commercial potential, we will not be moving them forward to the next phase unless we see a clear strategic alignment to the core LEGO® Idea of learning through play and developing systematic creativity.
In the “pre-validation phase” we perform an initial assessment of a concept and prepare it for further validation. We also assess the founder’s capabilities and mindset at this stage before deciding whether to move forward into the validation phase.
In the validation phase the founder will be working alongside the studio core team to further develop, refine, and validate the venture opportunity, which usually takes around two months. The primary goal of the validation phase is to de-risk the leap of faith assumptions through conducting experiments in the market and building evidence. The validation phase will be led by the founder and supported by the studio core team and can take place remotely.
Now it’s time to start building the company together! In the build phase the founder joins our team and operates as a co-founder to build up the business. Once the founder has demonstrated product market fit and proven early traction in the market over the course of 9 months, the ambition is to spin out the project as a NewCo to commercialize and scale.
Please note that it is required to relocate to Denmark from this phase onwards.
Can I participate remotely?
The collaboration during pre-validation and validation will take place remotely, but you must be willing to relocate to Denmark to build the business (Phase 3). You will not be required to relocate until the build phase, but please consider this before submitting the idea.
Who owns the idea?
During the validation phase the Incubation Studio will be covering costs to carry out experiments. Therefore a mutual agreement will be signed before entering this phase.
Please also note that we might be working on similar or competing business ideas already and that such activities shall not be precluded or restricted in any way due to the fact that you choose to submit your idea to LEGO Ventures/KIRKBI A/S.
Will LEGO Ventures offer any compensation?
In the validation phase the Incubation Studio will be covering costs to carry out experiments.
In the build phase a dedicated budget to bring the idea to market will be assigned to the founder, which will also cover salary for the founder and potential early employees.
